Google updates their algorithm about 500 to 600 times a year with small tweaks here or there. They also do major updates about twice a year, once in the winter, and once in the summer. Well currently when you create backlinks, or whatever you do with SEO, it takes a couple weeks to a month to update their algorithm to improve your position based on the keyword you are targeting.
